Job Overview

UMECO seeks a skilled Mining Equipment Maintenance Engineer to oversee the repair, maintenance, and optimization of heavy mining machinery in Fort Portal. This role is critical to ensuring operational efficiency and safety across UMECO’s Ugandan mining sites. The position offers opportunities to work with cutting-edge equipment and contribute to sustainable mining practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on mining equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks, drills).
  • Repair and replace mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
  • Implement safety protocols and compliance standards during maintenance activities.
  • Document maintenance records and submit technical reports on equipment status.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in mining equipment maintenance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in heavy machinery maintenance (mining or construction environments).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in remote, high-pressure environments with minimal supervision.
  • Valid technical certification in mining equipment maintenance (e.g., ISO 9001).

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in mining equipment maintenance or related field.

Salary

5,000,000 – 8,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and performance.
