Job Overview
The Cultural Event Coordinator will play a pivotal role in organizing and managing cultural festivals, heritage tours, and community-led events that highlight Uganda’s diverse traditions. This position requires a creative and detail-oriented individual who can bridge cultural storytelling with modern tourism practices. The role is ideal for candidates passionate about preserving intangible cultural heritage while promoting responsible tourism.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale cultural events, including music festivals, dance performances, and artisan fairs.
- Collaborate with local communities, NGOs, and tourism stakeholders to design authentic cultural experiences.
- Develop marketing strategies to attract domestic and international tourists to cultural events.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and logistics for event operations.
- Conduct research on traditional practices, oral histories, and indigenous knowledge to enrich event content.
- Ensure compliance with safety, accessibility, and sustainability standards during events.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in event management, preferably within cultural or tourism contexts.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to handle complex projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Creative problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic environments.
- Proficiency in digital tools for event promotion (social media, content creation, CRM).
- Knowledge of Ugandan cultural traditions and tourism regulations.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Event Management, Tourism, Anthropology, or related field.
- Advanced degree or certifications in Cultural Heritage Management are a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years in event coordination, cultural tourism, or community engagement.
- Experience managing cross-sector partnerships with government, NGOs, and private entities.
Salary
3,000,000 – 5,000,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and performance.
