Job Overview

The Sustainable Procurement Specialist will lead efforts to source environmentally responsible materials and services for Maersk’s logistics operations in East Africa. This role bridges supply chain efficiency with sustainability, ensuring compliance with international green standards while optimizing costs. The position is ideal for professionals passionate about driving circular economy principles in a dynamic logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on sustainability criteria, including carbon footprint and ethical practices.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors to ensure alignment with Maersk’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
  • Develop procurement strategies that integrate renewable energy solutions and waste-reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable sourcing frameworks.
  • Monitor industry trends in green procurement and recommend innovative solutions.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in sustainable procurement methodologies and certifications (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain software (SAP, Oracle) and sustainability analytics tools.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to analyze market data and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising sustainability.
  • Fluency in Ugandan local languages (Luganda, Runyankole) preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification (CIPS, PMP) is a plus.

Experience

  • 3-5 years in procurement or supply chain management with a focus on sustainability.
  • Experience in the logistics or maritime industry is highly advantageous.

Salary

4,000,000 – 5,000,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience.
