Job Overview
The Insurance Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating risk, pricing policies, and ensuring that underwriting guidelines are adhered to across all product lines. Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite new business proposals, ensuring accurate risk evaluation and appropriate pricing.
- Maintain and update underwriting guidelines in line with regulatory requirements and market trends.
- Collaborate with sales agents and brokers to provide technical support and negotiate terms.
- Conduct periodic reviews of existing policies to identify opportunities for renewal, amendment, or cancellation.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports and present findings to senior management.
- Monitor loss ratios and implement corrective actions to achieve profitability targets.
- Stay informed about industry developments, emerging risks, and competitive products.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in risk assessment tools.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- In‑depth knowledge of Ugandan insurance regulations and market dynamics.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams.

Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of proven experience in insurance underwriting, preferably within life, health, or general insurance lines. Experience in the Ugandan market, familiarity with local regulatory frameworks, and a track record of meeting underwriting profit targets are essential.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, pension contributions, and other statutory benefits.
