Job Overview

The Financial Crime Compliance Analyst will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the bank against money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes. Reporting to the Head of Compliance, the analyst will conduct thorough investigations, monitor suspicious activities, and ensure that all regulatory requirements are met. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed investigations of flagged transactions and customer profiles to identify potential financial crime risks.
  • Prepare and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) in accordance with local regulations.
  • Maintain and update the bank’s AML/CTF policies, procedures, and risk assessment frameworks.
  • Collaborate with business units to embed compliance controls into product development and daily operations.
  • Provide timely guidance and training to staff on AML/CTF obligations and emerging threats.
  • Monitor regulatory changes in Uganda and the East African region, ensuring the bank’s policies remain current.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
  • Utilize advanced analytics tools to detect patterns indicative of illicit activity.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and investigative abilities with attention to detail.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Uganda’s AML/CTF legislation and FATF recommendations.
  • Proficiency in compliance software and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report drafting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Candidates must have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in AML/CTF compliance, preferably within a banking or financial services environment. Experience with regulatory reporting, risk assessments, and the use of compliance monitoring systems is essential. Prior exposure to the Ugandan financial sector or East African markets will be viewed favorably.

Salary
