Job Overview

The Industrial Waste Management Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of waste treatment processes for industrial clients in the Western Region. This role involves conducting site assessments, developing engineering solutions, and ensuring compliance with Ugandan environmental regulations. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including operations, health & safety, and client services, to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective waste management projects that support Veolia’s sustainability objectives. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive waste audits for industrial facilities, identifying hazardous and non‑hazardous streams.
  • Design and size treatment systems, including physical, chemical, and biological processes, to meet client specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Develop detailed project proposals, cost estimates, and implementation schedules.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating with civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
  • Monitor plant performance, analyze operational data, and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions.
  • Ensure all activities comply with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) guidelines and international best practices.
  • Prepare technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and client presentations.
  • Support business development by identifying new market opportunities and contributing to tender responses.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of waste treatment technologies, including landfill gas capture, composting, and recycling processes.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, HYSYS, or Aspen Plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Project management expertise, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk assessment.
  • Ability to work independently and lead teams in a fast‑paced environment.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CEM) are considered an advantage and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience designing, implementing, or managing industrial waste treatment projects. Prior exposure to Ugandan environmental regulations and experience working with multinational corporations will be highly valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 3,500,000 to SSP 5,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
