Job Overview
The Quantum Computing Engineer will join the Quantum Research and Development department to design, implement, and optimize quantum circuits and algorithms that address real‑world challenges for IBM’s enterprise customers. This position involves close collaboration with quantum physicists, software developers, and hardware engineers to translate theoretical concepts into functional prototypes. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement quantum algorithms for optimization, cryptography, and machine learning applications.
- Develop and maintain quantum software libraries compatible with IBM Quantum Experience and Qiskit.
- Collaborate with hardware teams to test and validate quantum circuits on superconducting qubit platforms.
- Perform rigorous performance analysis, including error rates, coherence times, and gate fidelity assessments.
- Document research findings and contribute to peer‑reviewed publications and internal knowledge bases.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Engage with IBM’s global quantum community to share insights and adopt best practices.
- Support the creation of quantum‑ready cloud services for IBM’s enterprise customers in Uganda and the broader African market.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in quantum programming frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, or Forest.
- Strong foundation in quantum mechanics, linear algebra, and statistical methods.
- Experience with high‑performance computing (HPC) environments and Linux/Unix systems.
- Programming expertise in Python, C++, or Rust for quantum software development.

Education
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Experience
Applicants should have at least five years of hands‑on experience in quantum computing research, algorithm development, or related engineering roles. Salary
