Job Overview

The Microfinance Loan Officer will join BRAC Uganda’s Lending Operations team in Arua, a vibrant commercial hub in the West Nile region. Reporting to the Branch Manager, the officer will be responsible for assessing loan applications, conducting field visits, and managing a portfolio of micro‑enterprise clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate loan applications by conducting credit assessments, financial analysis, and field verification of client businesses.
  • Maintain a healthy loan portfolio by monitoring repayment schedules, identifying early warning signs, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Provide financial literacy coaching and business advisory services to borrowers to improve loan utilization and profitability.
  • Build and nurture relationships with community leaders, local NGOs, and partner institutions to source new clients and enhance outreach.
  • Prepare detailed loan proposals, risk ratings, and recommendation reports for senior management approval.
  • Ensure compliance with BRAC’s credit policies, regulatory requirements, and internal audit standards.
  • Participate in branch sales targets, contributing to the growth of microfinance products in the Arua market.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in financial statement analysis and cash‑flow forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with low‑literacy clients.
  • Good knowledge of microfinance principles, credit risk assessment, and loan monitoring techniques.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with BRAC’s loan management software.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and commitment to ethical lending practices.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in microfinance, risk management, or financial inclusion will be given preference.

Experience

Applicants should have 2‑4 years of hands‑on experience in microfinance lending, banking, or a comparable financial services environment. Experience working in rural or semi‑urban settings, especially in the West Nile region, is highly valued.

Salary
