Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, capacity, and reliability of MTN Uganda’s radio access network (RAN) across the Ntungamo region and beyond. Reporting to the Head of Network Engineering, the incumbent will lead optimization projects, conduct drive‑tests, analyze key performance indicators, and implement solutions that improve user experience. Key Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and monitor network optimization activities to meet KPI targets for coverage, capacity, and quality of service.
• Perform drive‑test measurements, data collection, and post‑processing using industry‑standard tools.
• Analyze performance data, identify bottlenecks, and recommend parameter adjustments, antenna tilts, and hardware upgrades.
• Collaborate with Radio Access Network (RAN) teams, RF engineers, and vendor partners to implement optimization solutions.
• Develop and maintain optimization reports, dashboards, and documentation for senior management.
• Participate in network rollout projects, providing optimization input during design and deployment phases.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, and AI‑driven network analytics to drive continuous improvement.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of LTE/4G and emerging 5G network architecture and protocols.
• Proficiency with drive‑test tools (e.g., Nemo, TEMS) and performance analysis software.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets and translate findings into actionable plans.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on customer experience enhancement.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation is a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NetAct, or Huawei Certified Network Professional (HCNP) are advantageous.

Experience

Candidates must have at least five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network optimization, preferably within a large mobile operator environment. Experience with network planning, drive‑test execution, and KPI management is essential.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the compensation package.
