Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Conservation Specialist to join our team in Mbarara, Uganda. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing conservation projects that protect and restore natural habitats, promote sustainable land use practices, and engage local communities in conservation efforts.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, conservation biology, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in conservation project management. They will be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicate complex conservation concepts to diverse audiences, and navigate the complexities of working in a developing country context.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement conservation projects that protect and restore natural habitats, promote sustainable land use practices, and engage local communities in conservation efforts.
- Conduct field assessments and monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of conservation projects and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to develop and implement conservation plans that balance human needs with environmental protection.
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate project results and recommendations to stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and donors.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in conservation project management, with a focus on habitat protection and restoration.
- Strong background in ecology, conservation biology, or a related field.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and navigate complex stakeholder relationships.
- Fluency in English and local languages (e.g. Runyankole, Runyoro).
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field.
Experience
5-7 years of experience in conservation project management, with a focus on habitat protection and restoration.
Salary
5,000,000 – 8,000,000 SSP per annum.
