Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Project Finance Analyst will play a pivotal role in structuring, evaluating, and managing the financial aspects of renewable energy initiatives linked to Anglo American’s mining operations in Uganda. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the analyst will collaborate with engineering, operations, and sustainability teams to develop robust financial models, assess investment viability, and secure funding from both internal and external sources. This position offers a unique blend of finance expertise and renewable energy knowledge, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to influence the financial sustainability of large‑scale projects that support Uganda’s energy transition. The role is integral to ensuring that projects meet financial targets, comply with regulatory standards, and deliver measurable environmental benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects, incorporating capital expenditures, operating costs, revenue streams, and risk factors.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost‑benefit analyses to determine project viability and recommend optimal financing structures.
  • Prepare comprehensive investment memoranda, business cases, and presentations for senior management and potential investors.
  • Coordinate with external financiers, including development banks, private equity firms, and government agencies, to negotiate financing terms and secure funding.
  • Monitor project budgets, cash flows, and financial performance throughout the project lifecycle, providing variance analysis and corrective recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with Ugandan financial regulations, tax laws, and international accounting standards related to renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with the sustainability team to quantify environmental impact metrics and integrate them into financial reporting.
  • Support the procurement process by evaluating financial implications of vendor contracts and equipment purchases.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of market trends, policy changes, and technological advancements in renewable energy and mining finance.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques using Excel, VBA, or specialized software.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, project development cycles, and associated financial structures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting complex financial concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Negotiation and stakeholder management experience, particularly with financiers and regulatory bodies.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting standards (IFRS) and Ugandan tax legislation.

Education

A Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or PMP are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in project finance, with a proven track record in renewable energy or mining sectors. Experience in securing project financing from development banks, sovereign funds, or private investors is essential. Prior exposure to Ugandan market dynamics and regulatory frameworks will be viewed favorably.

Salary
