Job Overview
The Quality Assurance Microbiology Analyst will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the microbiological integrity of Heineken Uganda’s products. Reporting to the QA Manager, the analyst will conduct routine and advanced microbiological testing, interpret results, and ensure compliance with both internal specifications and external regulatory requirements. This position is essential for maintaining product safety, supporting new product development, and upholding Heineken’s reputation for excellence in the beverage industry. Key Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological testing on raw materials, in‑process samples, and finished products using standard methods such as plate counts, PCR, and rapid detection kits.
- Monitor and document microbial trends, identify deviations, and recommend corrective actions to the production and QA teams.
- Validate and qualify new microbiological methods, ensuring they meet regulatory and company standards.
- Collaborate with R&D, Production, and Supply Chain departments to support product innovation and process optimization.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, calibrate instruments, and ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and HACCP principles.
- Prepare detailed analytical reports, present findings to senior management, and contribute to internal audit activities.
- Stay updated on emerging microbiological hazards, industry best practices, and changes in Ugandan food safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, aseptic handling, and contamination control.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, Minitab) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for reporting results and training staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with ISO 22000, ISO 9001, and local food safety regulations.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Food Scientist (CFS) or equivalent are advantageous.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in microbiological testing within the food or beverage sector. Experience with brewery environments, HACCP implementation, and regulatory compliance in Uganda is highly valued.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Heineken Uganda also offers performance‑based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package.
