Job Overview
The IoT Solutions Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and deploying IoT solutions that address the unique challenges of Uganda’s emerging markets. Reporting to the Lead IoT Architect, the incumbent will collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including hardware designers, software developers, and field engineers—to create end‑to‑end solutions that integrate sensors, edge devices, and cloud platforms. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on projects that improve agricultural productivity, enhance public safety, and support smart city initiatives in Koboko and surrounding regions. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable IoT architectures that connect sensors, gateways, and cloud services.
- Develop firmware and embedded software for edge devices using C/C++, Python, or Java.
- Integrate Huawei’s IoT platform with third‑party APIs and legacy systems.
- Conduct field trials, performance testing, and validation of IoT deployments in rural and urban settings.
- Collaborate with telecom engineers to ensure reliable network connectivity (4G/5G, NB‑IoT).
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for deployed solutions.
- Document design specifications, test results, and deployment guides.
- Stay updated on emerging IoT standards, security protocols, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in embedded systems development and hardware interfacing.
- Experience with IoT communication protocols (MQTT, CoAP, LwM2M).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Huawei Cloud, AWS, Azure) and data analytics pipelines.
- Familiarity with network technologies such as LTE‑Cat‑M, NB‑IoT, and 5G.
- Problem‑solving mindset with ability to work independently and in teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to travel to project sites across northern Uganda.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications in IoT, cloud computing, or network security are considered a strong advantage.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience developing IoT solutions, preferably in emerging markets. Experience with agricultural or health‑care IoT projects in Africa will be highly valued.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 4,000,000 to SSP 6,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and annual salary reviews are part of the compensation package.
