Job Overview
The Industrial Safety Engineer will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of safety programs across Diageo Uganda’s manufacturing operations. This role is pivotal in preventing incidents, ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting a proactive safety culture. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including production, maintenance, quality and environmental departments, to integrate safety into daily operations. The successful candidate will also serve as a key liaison with local regulatory bodies and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses and safety audits for all manufacturing processes.
- Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure compliance with Ugandan occupational safety regulations and international standards.
- Provide safety training and coaching to production staff, contractors and visitors.
- Monitor and report safety performance metrics to senior management.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to design safe work systems and equipment.
- Manage emergency response plans, drills and crisis management activities.
- Maintain safety documentation, records and reporting systems.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in Uganda.
- Proficiency in risk assessment tools and safety management software.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for training and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive safety initiatives.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
- Experience with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP or OSHA are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in industrial safety within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the beverage or food sector. Demonstrated track record of reducing incident rates and implementing successful safety programs is essential.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 2,500,000 to 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
