Job Overview

The Petroleum Geoscientist will play a pivotal role in the exploration and appraisal of hydrocarbon reservoirs within the Albertine Graben and surrounding basins. Reporting to the Chief Geoscientist, the successful candidate will lead geological and geophysical interpretation, integrate seismic data, and provide robust geological models that guide drilling decisions. Key Responsibilities

• Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data to identify prospective structures and stratigraphic traps.
• Develop and update geological models, including structural, sedimentological, and reservoir characterizations.
• Collaborate with petrophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams to ensure integrated workflow.
• Prepare technical reports, maps, cross‑sections, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct basin analysis and risk assessment to support exploration investment decisions.
• Mentor junior geoscientists and contribute to knowledge sharing within the department.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout all geoscientific activities.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, OpendTect).
• Strong understanding of sedimentology, structural geology, and basin modeling.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for presenting complex data to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and adapt to dynamic project environments.
• Proficiency in GIS and data visualization tools.

Education

A Master’s degree in Geosciences, Petroleum Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. are highly regarded, especially those with research focused on African sedimentary basins.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in petroleum geoscience, preferably within the East African region. Proven track record of successful exploration projects, seismic interpretation, and geological modelling is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
