Job Overview
The Marine Logistics Coordinator will manage the seamless flow of cargo through Maersk’s inland terminal in Nakasongola, coordinating with shipping lines, customs authorities, trucking partners and inland transport operators. This role ensures that containers are efficiently received, stored, and dispatched while maintaining compliance with international maritime regulations and local customs procedures. The coordinator will also leverage Maersk’s digital platforms to optimize routing, track shipments in real time, and provide proactive updates to customers. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate inbound and outbound container movements at the Nakasongola terminal.
- Maintain accurate documentation for customs clearance, cargo handling and safety compliance.
- Monitor real‑time shipment data using Maersk’s digital tools and resolve any discrepancies.
- Collaborate with trucking partners to schedule pickups and deliveries, ensuring on‑time performance.
- Prepare daily operational reports for senior management and stakeholders.
- Implement cost‑saving initiatives by optimizing load plans and reducing dwell time.
- Ensure adherence to International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards and local regulations.
- Provide exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries and delivering status updates.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of maritime logistics, customs procedures and container handling.
- Proficiency with logistics management software and data analytics tools.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities with internal and external partners.
- Problem‑solving mindset with the capacity to act quickly under pressure.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Luganda or Swahili is an advantage.
- Commitment to safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, Business Administration or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified International Supply Chain Professional (CISCP) or equivalent are desirable.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in maritime or inland logistics coordination, preferably within a multinational shipping or logistics company. Experience with customs clearance processes in Uganda is highly valued.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the remuneration package.
