Job Overview

The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for delivering on‑site technical support, maintenance, and repair services for Caterpillar’s heavy equipment fleet operating in the central region of Uganda. This role involves troubleshooting complex mechanical and hydraulic systems, performing preventive maintenance, and providing training to customer operators. Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar excavators, loaders, and motor graders on customer sites.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and calibrations according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Provide technical training and hands‑on guidance to equipment operators and maintenance staff.
• Document service reports, parts usage, and time‑sheet entries in the company’s ERP system.
• Collaborate with regional parts logistics to ensure timely availability of spare components.
• Assist in field testing of new equipment models and provide feedback for product improvement.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electronic control units.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic software and handheld testing equipment.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
• Ability to work independently in remote locations and adapt to varying weather conditions.
• Valid Ugandan driver’s licence (Category B) and willingness to travel extensively across the region.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as Caterpillar Certified Service Technician (CCST) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience servicing heavy construction equipment, preferably with exposure to Caterpillar or comparable brands.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and includes performance‑based incentives.
