Job Overview

The Agricultural Data Scientist will lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced analytics solutions that drive precision agriculture initiatives across our Mubende operations. This role involves collaborating with agronomists, engineers, and business leaders to translate complex datasets into actionable recommendations that improve crop performance, optimize resource use, and support sustainable farming practices. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing Cargill’s digital agriculture agenda, ensuring that data insights are embedded in every stage of the agricultural value chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop predictive models for yield forecasting, pest detection, and soil health using machine learning and statistical techniques.
• Integrate satellite imagery, IoT sensor data, and farm management records into a unified analytics platform.
• Collaborate with agronomists to design data‑driven field trials and evaluate the impact of new seed varieties and input products.
• Create interactive dashboards and visualizations that enable farmers and internal stakeholders to monitor key performance indicators in real time.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis of production gaps and propose data‑backed recommendations for process improvement.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance with Cargill’s data security standards.
• Present findings and strategic insights to senior leadership, highlighting opportunities for cost reduction and revenue growth.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies in precision agriculture, AI, and big data, and assess their applicability to Cargill’s operations.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and model development.
• Experience with GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and remote sensing data processing.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Ability to translate complex analytical results into clear, actionable business recommendations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Understanding of agricultural practices, crop cycles, and agronomic variables is a plus.

Education

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) are advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of professional experience in data analytics, preferably within the agriculture, food, or environmental sectors. Demonstrated experience in building predictive models for agronomic outcomes will be highly valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and profit‑sharing opportunities are also available.
