Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead IBM Uganda’s privacy program, ensuring compliance with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, GDPR, and other relevant regulations. This role involves developing policies, conducting privacy impact assessments, and advising business units on data handling best practices. The officer will collaborate closely with legal, security, and technology teams to embed privacy by design into all products and services. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the enterprise-wide data privacy framework aligned with Ugandan law and international standards.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, products, and services.
• Provide privacy guidance and training to internal stakeholders, ensuring privacy by design principles are integrated.
• Monitor regulatory developments and update policies and procedures accordingly.
• Lead incident response activities related to data breaches, including notification and remediation.
• Collaborate with the legal team to draft and review data processing agreements, privacy notices, and consent mechanisms.
• Maintain records of processing activities (ROPA) and ensure accurate documentation.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for data subjects and supervisory authorities.
• Report privacy metrics and compliance status to senior management and the global privacy council.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, GDPR, and other relevant privacy regulations.
• Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills for translating complex legal concepts into actionable business guidance.
• Experience with privacy management tools and data mapping techniques.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with IT, legal, HR, and business units.
• Project management experience and attention to detail.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or Certified Information Privacy Professional are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles, preferably within a multinational technology environment. Demonstrated experience in conducting DPIAs and managing privacy incidents is essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 3,500,000 to SSP 5,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based bonuses and benefits are part of the compensation package.
