Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead Google Uganda’s privacy program, ensuring compliance with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, as well as international regulations such as GDPR and CCPA. The role involves developing policies, conducting privacy impact assessments, and advising product teams on privacy‑by‑design principles. The officer will also serve as the primary point of contact for data subjects, regulators, and internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures aligned with Ugandan law and global best practices.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new products, services, and major system changes.
• Provide privacy guidance and training to cross‑functional teams, including engineering, marketing, and legal.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise senior management on emerging privacy risks.
• Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and ensure timely, accurate responses.
• Collaborate with the security team to integrate privacy controls into incident response plans.
• Prepare and submit privacy reports to the Uganda Data Protection Authority and other relevant bodies.
• Lead internal audits and third‑party assessments to verify compliance.
• Promote a culture of privacy awareness across the organization.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant regulations.
• Strong analytical and risk‑assessment abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting policies and interacting with regulators.
• Proficiency in privacy‑by‑design frameworks and data mapping tools.
• Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Experience with incident response and data breach management.
• Project management skills and ability to work independently.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CISA are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or legal advisory roles, preferably within a technology or multinational environment. Prior experience interacting with data protection authorities and handling DSARs is essential.

Salary

The annual compensation ranges from SSP 3,000,000 to SSP 5,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and other benefits.
