Job Overview

The Mine Safety Officer will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety policies, procedures, and training programs across all mining operations in Nakasongola. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, the officer will conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits to ensure compliance with Ugandan mining regulations, ISO 45001 standards, and company‑specific safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and enforce comprehensive safety policies and standard operating procedures aligned with local regulations and international best practices.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to proactively mitigate potential safety issues.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
• Deliver engaging safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills for all staff levels.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and dashboards for senior management and regulatory bodies.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and equipment design.
• Monitor compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and ensure availability of necessary safety gear.
• Serve as the primary liaison with Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and other regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.

Required Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Ugandan mining safety legislation and ISO 45001 standards.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities for risk assessment and incident investigation.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or a recognized Ugandan safety credential are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in occupational safety within the mining or heavy‑industry sector, with a proven track record of reducing incident rates and implementing effective safety programs.

Salary

The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the compensation package.
