Job Overview

The Solar Energy Project Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of solar power projects ranging from 1 MW to 10 MW in the West Nile region. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering design of solar PV systems, including site assessment, layout planning, and electrical schematics.
• Coordinate with procurement to source high‑quality solar modules, inverters, and balance‑of‑system components.
• Manage the installation, testing, and commissioning phases, ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards.
• Conduct performance analysis and optimization studies to maximize energy yield.
• Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and risk assessments for senior management.
• Engage with local communities and authorities to secure permits, land access, and stakeholder buy‑in.
• Implement health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols on all project sites.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of solar PV technology, grid integration, and power electronics.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, or Helioscope.
• Excellent project management and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
• Ability to work in remote locations and adapt to challenging field conditions.
• Familiarity with Ugandan energy regulations and permitting processes.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) or equivalent are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in solar project engineering, including at least two years in a leadership or project‑lead role. Experience with utility‑scale solar installations in East Africa is highly preferred.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 3,000,000 to SSP 5,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for field travel are also part of the compensation package.
