Job Overview
This role focuses on designing and implementing sustainable water resource management solutions in Arua, addressing challenges related to water scarcity, sanitation, and climate adaptation. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with local governments, NGOs, and communities to improve water access and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute water resource management plans aligned with national environmental policies.
- Conduct hydrological assessments and feasibility studies for new water infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate with local stakeholders to implement rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge systems.
- Monitor water quality and ensure compliance with Ugandan environmental regulations.
- Provide technical training to community members on sustainable water usage practices.
Required Skills
- Expertise in GIS mapping and water resource modeling software (e.g., ArcGIS, HEC-HMS).
- Strong project management skills with a proven track record in environmental initiatives.
- Excellent communication abilities for stakeholder engagement and report writing.
- Knowledge of Ugandan water governance frameworks and climate adaptation strategies.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and local languages (e.g., Lugbara) is an asset.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred, with a focus on sustainable development or climate resilience.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in water resource management, environmental engineering, or similar roles.
- Previous project experience in East Africa or Sub-Saharan Africa is highly advantageous.
Salary
4,500,000 – 6,000,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
