Job Overview
The Digital Payments Risk Analyst will play a pivotal role in safeguarding Stanbic Bank Uganda’s digital payment ecosystem. Reporting to the Head of Risk Management, the analyst will monitor, assess, and mitigate risks associated with online transactions, mobile money, and emerging fintech solutions. The position involves close collaboration with IT, compliance, fraud prevention, and product development teams to design risk‑based controls, conduct investigations, and ensure adherence to local and international regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct real‑time monitoring of digital payment channels to identify suspicious activities and potential fraud.
- Develop and implement risk assessment frameworks tailored to mobile money, online banking, and API‑based services.
- Collaborate with the IT security team to integrate advanced analytics and machine‑learning models for fraud detection.
- Prepare detailed risk reports for senior management, highlighting trends, emerging threats, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with the Bank of Uganda’s regulations, AML/CFT guidelines, and international standards such as PCI‑DSS.
- Lead investigations into confirmed fraud incidents, coordinate with law enforcement, and recommend corrective actions.
- Provide risk‑aware recommendations during the design and rollout of new digital products and services.
- Conduct periodic risk reviews and stress testing of the digital payments portfolio.
- Deliver training and awareness sessions for staff on risk policies and emerging fraud techniques.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in data‑analysis tools (SQL, Python, R, or similar).
- In‑depth knowledge of digital payment systems, mobile money platforms, and fintech innovations.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing payments in Uganda and the broader East African region.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex risk concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience with fraud detection software and risk‑management platforms.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in digital payments risk management, fraud analytics, or related fields within the banking or fintech sector. Proven experience in leading investigations, developing risk models, and ensuring regulatory compliance is essential. Experience working in the Ugandan financial market or East African region will be viewed favorably.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the remuneration package.
