Job Overview

The Agricultural Machinery Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety of John Deere’s fleet of tractors, combines, and specialized implements deployed throughout Uganda. Working from the Mubende service hub, you will lead preventive maintenance programs, diagnose complex mechanical and hydraulic issues, and provide technical training to field technicians. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules for all John Deere equipment operating in Uganda.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on tractors, harvesters, and implements.
• Maintain detailed service records, parts inventory, and compliance documentation in line with company standards.
• Provide on‑site technical support to dealers, distributors, and large‑scale farming operations.
• Train and mentor junior technicians on best practices, safety protocols, and new technology integrations.
• Collaborate with the parts procurement team to ensure timely availability of critical components.
• Participate in field trials of new equipment models and provide feedback to product development teams.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electronic control units.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software and handheld troubleshooting tools.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with farmers, dealers, and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently in remote field locations.
• Commitment to safety standards and continuous improvement.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as John Deere Service Technician Certification, ASE, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience maintaining and repairing agricultural machinery, preferably with a focus on high‑horsepower tractors and combine harvesters. Experience in a dealer or OEM service environment is advantageous.

Salary

The annual compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and a comprehensive benefits suite.
