Job Overview

The Sustainable Building Materials Engineer will lead the research, development and implementation of eco‑friendly construction materials that meet both local building codes and international sustainability standards. Working closely with product development, R&D, and construction project teams, the engineer will drive innovation in low‑carbon cement blends, recycled aggregate utilization, and alternative binder technologies. Key Responsibilities

• Design and test sustainable cement formulations that reduce CO₂ emissions by at least 20% compared to conventional mixes.
• Collaborate with local universities and research institutes to pilot innovative material solutions.
• Conduct life‑cycle assessments and environmental impact analyses for new products.
• Provide technical support to sales and construction teams on the application of sustainable materials.
• Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and best‑practice guidelines for green building materials.
• Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with Ugandan construction and environmental regulations.
• Lead workshops and training sessions for internal stakeholders on sustainable material usage.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of cement chemistry, concrete technology and alternative binders.
• Proficiency in material testing equipment and software for data analysis.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and innovative mindset.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Project management experience with ability to meet deadlines and budgets.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 and green building certification systems (e.g., LEED, EDGE).

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in sustainable construction will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in building materials research, product development or construction engineering, preferably within the cement or concrete industry. Experience with sustainable material initiatives in emerging markets is highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
