Job Overview

The Advanced Robotics Integration Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of robotic systems for ABB’s manufacturing clients in Uganda and the broader East African region. This role bridges the gap between cutting‑edge robotics technology and real‑world production environments, ensuring seamless integration of hardware, software, and control systems. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams—including sales, project management, software development, and field service—to deliver turnkey automation solutions that meet stringent performance, safety, and cost criteria. The position involves extensive client interaction, on‑site installation, programming, testing, and post‑deployment support. As a key member of the Engineering department, you will also mentor junior engineers, contribute to knowledge‑sharing platforms, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that align with ABB’s strategic goals for Industry 4.0 in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end integration of robotic cells, collaborative robots, and automated guided vehicles for manufacturing lines.
• Develop detailed engineering specifications, wiring diagrams, and control logic using PLC and robot programming languages.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost‑benefit analyses for automation projects.
• Collaborate with customers to define functional requirements, performance metrics, and safety standards.
• Perform on‑site installation, commissioning, debugging, and performance validation of robotic systems.
• Provide technical training and support to client personnel and ABB field service teams.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design reports, test results, and as‑built records.
• Identify opportunities for system optimization, predictive maintenance, and integration with IoT platforms.
• Stay current with emerging robotics technologies, standards, and best practices to drive innovation.
• Support business development activities by preparing technical proposals, presentations, and demonstrations.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in robot programming languages such as RAPID, KRL, or URScript.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, or ABB AC500).
• Experience with vision systems, force/torque sensors, and safety-rated collaborative robot applications.
• Ability to read and create electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and CAD models.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a systematic approach to troubleshooting.
• Effective communication skills for client interaction and cross‑functional teamwork.
• Project management capabilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
• Commitment to safety standards such as ISO 10218 and ISO/TS 15066.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
• Willingness to travel across Uganda and occasionally to neighboring countries.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a closely related field is required. Advanced certifications in robotics (e.g., ABB RobotStudio, FANUC Certified Programmer) or a Master’s degree are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in robotics integration, automation engineering, or industrial control systems. Proven track record of delivering complex automation projects in manufacturing environments is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 3,000,000 to SSP 5,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
