Job Overview

This role is ideal for a dynamic professional passionate about leveraging technology to revolutionize Uganda’s agricultural sector. The Agricultural Technology Specialist will design, implement, and manage digital tools and platforms to improve farming efficiency, crop yields, and market access for smallholder farmers. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management, and stakeholder engagement to support TechnoServe’s mission of inclusive agricultural growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy mobile-based agricultural solutions for crop monitoring, soil analysis, and weather forecasting.
  • Collaborate with farmers and agribusinesses to identify technological needs and provide tailored training programs.
  • Analyze agricultural data to generate insights for optimizing farming practices and resource allocation.
  • Partner with local governments and NGOs to scale digital agriculture initiatives across Mbarara and surrounding regions.
  • Conduct field trials of new technologies and document their impact on productivity and sustainability.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in agricultural technology, digital tools, or agri-tech startups.
  • Strong understanding of Ugandan agricultural systems and challenges faced by smallholder farmers.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Python, R) and GIS mapping tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for training sessions and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ability to work in remote rural environments and adapt to dynamic project requirements.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s) in Agricultural Technology or Digital Innovation preferred.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in agricultural technology, rural development, or agribusiness.
  • Previous project management experience in technology implementation for agricultural sectors.

Salary

UGX 3,000,000 – UGX 5,000,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
