Job Overview

This role is part of ERM’s commitment to advancing environmental stewardship in Uganda. The Environmental Impact Assessment Specialist will lead assessments for proposed projects, ensuring alignment with national and international environmental standards. The position requires collaboration with stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and project developers, to evaluate ecological risks and propose mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for infrastructure, energy, and mining projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, including baseline studies, risk assessments, and mitigation plans.
  • Engage with local communities to gather data and address environmental concerns.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, engineers, and social scientists.
  • Ensure compliance with Ugandan environmental regulations and international standards (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Present findings to clients and regulatory bodies for project approval.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in GIS and environmental data analysis tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Strong understanding of Ugandan environmental laws and EIA procedures.
  • Excellent report writing and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct field surveys in remote locations.
  • Experience with climate change adaptation frameworks.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Ecology, or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Environmental Management or Sustainability preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years in environmental impact assessment or related roles.
  • Proven track record in managing EIA projects in East Africa.

Salary

UGX 3,000,000 – UGX 4,500,000 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
