Job Overview
The Geotechnical Engineer will lead geotechnical investigations, design stability solutions, and provide technical guidance for mining projects across Uganda. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mining engineers, environmental specialists, and client stakeholders, to ensure safe and cost‑effective extraction practices. This position offers a unique platform to apply advanced geotechnical principles in a dynamic mining environment while contributing to sustainable resource development.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site investigations, borehole drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing to assess soil and rock properties.
- Develop geotechnical models and stability analyses for open‑pit and underground mining operations.
- Prepare detailed design reports, recommendations, and risk mitigation strategies for slope stability, foundation design, and ground support.
- Collaborate with mining engineers to integrate geotechnical data into mine planning and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with Ugandan mining regulations, international standards, and PwC’s internal quality procedures.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and support knowledge‑sharing initiatives within the firm.
- Participate in client meetings, presenting findings and advising on cost‑effective engineering solutions.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or Rocscience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and client interaction.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with Ugandan mining legislation and environmental guidelines.
- Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline adherence.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PE, CEng) is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on geotechnical engineering experience in mining or large‑scale infrastructure projects is essential. Prior experience with slope stability analysis, ground improvement techniques, and mine design integration will be prioritized.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and annual salary reviews are part of the total rewards structure.
