Job Overview
Lead the development of smart textiles incorporating biodegradable materials, temperature-responsive fibers, and embedded sustainability tracking systems. This role bridges traditional Ugandan textile techniques with modern technology to create high-performance, environmentally responsible clothing for global markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and prototype smart textiles using organic cotton blends and recycled polyester
- Integrate sensor-embedded fabrics for performance monitoring in athletic wear
- Collaborate with local weavers to incorporate traditional patterns into modern designs
- Conduct lifecycle assessments for new fabric innovations
- Develop production specifications for factory implementation
Required Skills
- Expertise in CAD software for textile design
- Knowledge of GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification
- Experience with smart fabric prototyping
- Understanding of Ugandan textile traditions
- Fluency in sustainability metrics reporting
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Engineering, Material Science, or Sustainable Design. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
Experience
3-5 years in textile innovation with a focus on sustainable materials. Experience in smart fabric development or fashion-tech startups is highly desirable.
Salary
3,500,000 – 5,000,000 SSP per month, depending on experience and portfolio.
