Job Overview

The Sustainable Packaging Design Specialist will lead the development of biodegradable and recyclable packaging solutions tailored to Uganda’s agricultural and consumer markets. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design packaging that minimizes carbon footprint, complies with international sustainability standards, and supports local waste management initiatives. Candidates will leverage cutting-edge design software and life-cycle analysis tools to innovate next-generation packaging systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype eco-friendly packaging solutions for food and beverage products
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments for packaging materials and processes
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source sustainable raw materials
  • Develop technical specifications for recyclable and compostable packaging
  • Train production teams on sustainable manufacturing best practices
  • Monitor compliance with ISO 14001 and other environmental certification standards

Required Skills

  • Expertise in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for packaging design
  • Proficiency in life-cycle assessment (LCA) tools
  • Knowledge of biodegradable material properties and applications
  • Experience with Ugandan waste management regulations
  • Strong analytical skills for cost-benefit analysis of sustainable solutions
  • Excellent communication for cross-departmental collaboration

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Packaging Engineering, or related field. Advanced certification in sustainable design (e.g., LEED, Cradle to Cradle) is a plus.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in packaging design, with a focus on environmental sustainability. Prior projects involving biodegradable materials or circular economy models are highly desirable.

Salary

1,500,000 – 2,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and achievements in sustainable innovation.
