Job Overview
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager will lead PepsiCo Uganda’s food safety program, ensuring that all products meet local and international regulatory requirements, as well as internal quality standards. Reporting to the Regional Quality Director, the manager will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food safety systems, HACCP plans, and quality assurance processes. This role is central to protecting consumer health, maintaining brand reputation, and supporting PepsiCo’s strategic objectives in the Ugandan market. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Production, R&D, Procurement, and Marketing, to embed a culture of safety and quality throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive food safety and quality management systems aligned with GFSI, ISO 22000, and local Ugandan regulations.
- Lead HACCP plan creation, verification, and validation for all product lines, ensuring effective control of critical control points.
- Conduct internal audits, supplier audits, and third‑party inspections, documenting findings and driving corrective actions.
- Monitor and analyze quality metrics, trend data, and consumer feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide training and mentorship to production staff, quality technicians, and new hires on food safety best practices.
- Collaborate with R&D to evaluate new product formulations for safety compliance before launch.
- Manage incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and recall procedures, ensuring timely communication with regulatory authorities.
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior leadership on food safety performance, risk assessments, and compliance status.
- Stay current with evolving food safety legislation in Uganda and globally, advising the business on necessary adaptations.
- Support sustainability initiatives by integrating waste‑reduction and safe handling practices into quality protocols.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of HACCP, GFSI, ISO 22000, and Ugandan food safety regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven leadership experience in managing cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree or professional certifications such as Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP) or HACCP Certified Practitioner will be given preference.
Experience
Minimum of five years’ experience in food safety and quality assurance within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the beverage sector. Prior experience leading audits, managing HACCP systems, and coordinating with regulatory bodies is essential.
Salary
The annual salary range for this role is SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
