Job Overview
The Logistics Automation Manager will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems within UPS Uganda’s distribution network. This role focuses on integrating robotics, conveyor technologies, and warehouse management software to enhance throughput, reduce manual handling, and improve order accuracy. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive automation roadmap for the Kigumba distribution center.
- Lead the selection, installation, and commissioning of robotic picking systems, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and conveyor networks.
- Integrate warehouse management system (WMS) enhancements with automated hardware to improve real‑time inventory visibility.
- Collaborate with IT to ensure seamless data flow between automation equipment and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order cycle time, pick accuracy, and labor cost savings, providing regular reports to senior leadership.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee maintenance schedules for all automated assets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste and increase efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, conducting risk assessments and training sessions for staff interacting with automated equipment.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in logistics automation technologies, including robotics, AGVs, and WMS integration.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
- Project management experience, preferably with PMP or PRINCE2 certification.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process‑optimization frameworks.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and occupational health standards in a warehouse environment.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in automation, robotics, or project management are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years managing logistics automation projects in a fast‑paced distribution or manufacturing setting. Experience within a multinational logistics firm is a plus.
Salary
The competitive salary range for this position is SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the compensation package.
