Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Project Manager will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of large‑scale renewable energy projects from concept through commissioning. Reporting to the Head of Project Development, the incumbent will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure projects meet technical, financial, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for solar, wind, and hydro projects.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, finance, and legal, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Manage relationships with government agencies, local authorities, landowners, and community groups to secure permits and maintain social license to operate.
  • Monitor project performance against key milestones, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee contract negotiations, vendor selection, and procurement processes to achieve cost‑effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery efficiency and quality.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities with a proven track record of delivering complex renewable energy projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of handling technical and financial challenges.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills for stakeholder engagement and contract management.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and data analysis tools.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Ugandan renewable energy regulations, permitting processes, and grid interconnection standards.
  • Ability to work in multicultural environments and adapt to dynamic project conditions.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five to seven years of hands‑on experience managing renewable energy projects, preferably in solar, wind, or hydroelectric sectors. Experience in the Ugandan market, including familiarity with local regulatory frameworks and community engagement practices, is strongly preferred.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 50,000,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, pension contributions, and other statutory benefits.
