Job Overview
The Hydrogen Production Engineer will lead the design, commissioning, and optimization of hydrogen generation facilities at Air Liquide’s new Kabale plant. This role is pivotal in delivering reliable, cost‑effective, and environmentally responsible hydrogen to power industrial processes, transportation, and emerging fuel‑cell markets in Uganda and the wider East African region. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrolyzer systems and associated process equipment for large‑scale hydrogen production.
- Lead the installation, start‑up, and commissioning of hydrogen plants, ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets.
- Optimize process parameters to maximize efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and lower operational costs.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance for hydrogen handling and storage.
- Collaborate with R&D, procurement, and operations teams to integrate innovative technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and performance dashboards for senior management and stakeholders.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for plant operations, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrolysis technologies, gas compression, and purification processes.
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, COMSOL) and CAD tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and data‑driven decision‑making.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Project management experience with a focus on large‑scale industrial projects.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or specialized certifications in hydrogen technologies, renewable energy, or process safety are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must have at least five years of hands‑on experience in hydrogen production, electrolyzer design, or related chemical process engineering roles. Experience in the African energy sector, familiarity with local regulations, and a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget will be valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 30,000,000 to SSP 45,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and contributions to retirement savings.
