Job Overview

The Chief Data Officer (CDO) will lead Google Uganda’s data strategy, ensuring that data is transformed into actionable insights that drive business decisions, product innovation, and operational excellence. Reporting directly to the Country Managing Director, the CDO will build and scale data platforms, champion data governance, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed data‑centric thinking throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with Google’s global vision and local market needs.
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data architectures, including data lakes, warehouses, and real‑time analytics pipelines.
  • Establish robust data governance frameworks, ensuring data quality, security, privacy, and compliance with Ugandan regulations.
  • Partner with product, engineering, marketing, and sales teams to translate business challenges into data‑driven solutions.
  • Mentor and grow a high‑performing data team comprising data engineers, analysts, scientists, and architects.
  • Drive the adoption of advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI across business units.
  • Represent Google Uganda in industry forums, conferences, and government initiatives related to data and digital transformation.
  • Monitor and report on key data metrics, delivering insights that influence strategic decisions.

Required Skills

  • Deep expertise in data architecture, cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred), and big‑data technologies.
  • Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
  • Proven track record of implementing data governance and compliance programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex data concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking with a focus on business outcomes.
  • Experience with machine learning pipelines and AI integration.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, innovative environment.

Education

A Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in cloud data platforms, data governance, or AI are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing large‑scale data initiatives.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 120,000,000 to SSP 180,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience and expertise. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and equity incentives.
