Job Overview
This role involves leading digital archiving initiatives for Uganda’s cultural heritage, including digitization of historical artifacts, preservation of oral histories, and development of interactive heritage platforms. The position offers opportunities to work with cutting-edge 3D scanning technology and AI-driven archival systems while contributing to UNESCO’s Global Heritage Digitization Initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Digitize and catalog cultural artifacts using 3D scanning and photogrammetry techniques
- Develop metadata standards for heritage digital assets
- Collaborate with local elders and cultural practitioners to document oral histories
- Implement blockchain-based authentication systems for digital heritage assets
- Create interactive virtual exhibits for global audiences
- Train local teams in digital preservation methodologies
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modeling software
- Experience with archival management systems (Archivists’ Toolkit, Archon)
- Knowledge of cultural heritage preservation standards
- Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills
- Basic understanding of AI/ML for pattern recognition in heritage data
- Fluency in Luganda and English
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Archiving, Cultural Heritage Management, or related field. Advanced degrees in Museum Studies or Digital Humanities are advantageous.
Experience
3-5 years in digital preservation projects, with at least 1 year in African heritage contexts. Experience with international heritage organizations preferred.
Salary
3,000,000 – 4,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
