Job Overview

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor will lead a team of technicians responsible for the upkeep, repair, and overhaul of Caterpillar’s diverse fleet, including excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, and motor graders. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and client service level agreements. This role involves planning preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, managing spare parts inventory, and coordinating with field service engineers to minimize equipment downtime. The successful candidate will also collaborate with the sales and project teams to provide technical expertise during equipment selection and commissioning phases. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for all heavy equipment in the Rukungiri hub.
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of 8‑10 maintenance technicians, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults, ensuring timely and cost‑effective repairs.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and compliance documentation in line with industry regulations.
• Manage spare parts inventory, negotiate with suppliers, and control costs while ensuring parts availability.
• Coordinate with project managers to schedule equipment servicing around client operations, minimizing production interruptions.
• Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks to uphold a zero‑incident workplace.
• Provide technical support and training to field engineers and customers on equipment operation and maintenance best practices.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electronic control modules.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, CNC equipment, and maintenance management software.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team‑building abilities.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings.

Education

A Diploma or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field is required. Additional certifications such as Caterpillar Certified Technician (CCT) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience maintaining heavy construction or mining equipment, with at least two years in a supervisory or lead role. Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team and exposure to large‑scale infrastructure projects will be considered an advantage.
