Job Overview

The Pharmacovigilance Specialist will play a critical role in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs) for Pfizer’s portfolio in Uganda. This position is central to maintaining product safety, complying with national and international regulations, and supporting the overall mission of protecting public health. Key Responsibilities

• Collect, assess, and document adverse event reports from healthcare providers, patients, and regulatory authorities.
• Perform causality assessments and signal detection using established pharmacovigilance tools.
• Prepare and submit periodic safety update reports (PSURs) and individual case safety reports (ICSRs) to the Uganda National Drug Authority.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Medical Affairs to ensure timely safety communication.
• Maintain the safety database, ensuring data integrity and compliance with Good Pharmacovigilance Practices (GVP).
• Provide safety training and mentorship to local staff and external partners.
• Support risk management plans and develop risk minimization strategies.
• Participate in audits and inspections, addressing any findings related to drug safety.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
• Proficiency in pharmacovigilance software (e.g., Argus, Arisg).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with Ugandan drug safety regulations and ICH guidelines.
• High ethical standards and commitment to patient safety.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Medicine, or a related scientific discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PV certification) are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning, aligning with the hiring in Uganda landscape.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, or related regulatory roles within the pharmaceutical industry. Experience with global safety reporting, signal detection, and interaction with regulatory bodies will be considered a strong advantage.
