Job Overview

The Sustainable Tourism Development Officer will design and implement eco-tourism initiatives that align with conservation goals while boosting local economies. This role requires strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and a deep understanding of Uganda’s tourism potential. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage sustainable tourism programs in collaboration with local communities and conservation partners.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for eco-tourism projects, ensuring alignment with environmental and cultural preservation standards.
  • Engage with stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners to promote responsible tourism practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate tourism impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Provide training and capacity-building programs for local tourism operators and community guides.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in tourism development or environmental conservation projects.
  • Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Ugandan tourism regulations and conservation policies.
  • Ability to analyze market trends and design revenue-generating tourism models.
  • Proficiency in using GIS or mapping tools for tourism planning.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s) preferred but not mandatory.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in tourism development, conservation, or community engagement.
  • Previous work in Employment in Uganda or East African regional projects is advantageous.

Salary

3,000,000 – 4,500,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
