Job Overview
The Precision Agriculture Data Analyst will work within the Technology & Innovation department to collect, process, and analyze geospatial and sensor data from farms across the Mubende region. The analyst will collaborate with agronomists, engineers, and field technicians to develop actionable recommendations that improve crop yields, reduce input costs, and promote sustainable practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of digital agriculture in Uganda, leveraging satellite imagery, IoT devices, and machine learning models. The role directly supports John Deere’s commitment to delivering high‑value solutions to Ugandan growers and contributes to the nation’s agricultural advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and integrate data from satellite imagery, UAVs, soil sensors, and equipment telemetry.
- Develop and maintain GIS databases and analytical dashboards for farm performance monitoring.
- Apply statistical models and machine learning techniques to predict yield outcomes and recommend optimal input strategies.
- Collaborate with field agronomists to validate analytical insights and refine recommendation algorithms.
- Produce clear, visual reports and presentations for farmers, extension officers, and internal stakeholders.
- Support the development of mobile and web applications that deliver real‑time agronomic advice.
- Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with local regulations.
- Stay updated on emerging precision agriculture technologies and best practices.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing tools.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in Python, R, or similar data‑science languages.
- Knowledge of agricultural datasets, crop modeling, and soil science.
- Ability to translate complex data findings into actionable recommendations for non‑technical audiences.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) for data storage and processing.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Data Science, Computer Science, Geography, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in GIS, remote sensing, or data analytics are advantageous.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of professional experience in data analysis, GIS, or precision agriculture, preferably within the African agricultural context. Experience working with farming communities and delivering data‑driven solutions is highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and expertise. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and benefits.
