Job Overview

The Hydrogeology Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in collecting, processing, and interpreting hydrogeological data to support water resource assessments and management strategies across the Kaberamaido region. This position involves close collaboration with field teams, GIS specialists, and policy analysts to ensure high‑quality data informs decision‑making for irrigation projects, groundwater sustainability, and climate adaptation initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data collection protocols for groundwater level monitoring, well logging, and aquifer testing.
  • Process raw hydrogeological datasets using statistical software and GIS tools to generate spatially explicit models.
  • Analyze temporal trends and variability in groundwater recharge, extraction, and quality parameters.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hydrogeological insights into broader water‑resource management plans.
  • Prepare technical reports, data visualizations, and policy briefs for government agencies, donors, and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update the institute’s hydrogeology database ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and present findings at national and international conferences.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS) and GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Strong understanding of hydrogeological concepts, groundwater modeling, and water‑quality assessment.
  • Experience with database management and data cleaning techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving abilities.

Education

A Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Management, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. are highly desirable and will be given priority consideration.

Relevant certifications in GIS, data analytics, or groundwater modeling (e.g., MODFLOW) are advantageous.

Experience

Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of professional experience in hydrogeological data analysis, groundwater monitoring, or related research roles. Experience working in East Africa or similar developing country contexts is preferred.

Salary
