Job Overview

The Solar PV Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day operations of solar assets in the Kagadi region, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. Reporting to the Regional Director, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and field staff, managing everything from routine maintenance to performance analytics and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operation and maintenance (O&M) of solar PV installations ranging from 1 MW to 20 MW in capacity.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety standards and local regulations.
  • Monitor system performance using SCADA platforms, analyze data trends, and initiate corrective actions to achieve >95% availability.
  • Manage a team of field technicians, providing coaching, performance reviews, and career development plans.
  • Coordinate with the procurement department to ensure timely availability of spare parts and consumables.
  • Prepare monthly operational reports, KPIs, and financial dashboards for senior management.
  • Engage with community leaders, government agencies, and utility partners to address operational concerns and support project expansion.
  • Oversee contract management with third‑party service providers, ensuring service level agreements are met.
  • Implement health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, conducting regular audits and risk assessments.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of photovoltaic systems, inverters, balance‑of‑system components, and grid interconnection.
  • Proficiency in performance monitoring tools such as Powerhub, Sunny Portal, or equivalent.
  • Excellent leadership and team‑building capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills for stakeholder management and reporting.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret large data sets and generate actionable insights.
  • Project management experience, preferably with PMP or similar certification.
  • Commitment to safety culture and environmental responsibility.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in solar PV, such as NABCEP PV OP, are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum five (5) years of hands‑on experience in solar PV operations, maintenance, or project management, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience working in Uganda or similar emerging markets is a plus.

Salary

The competitive remuneration package ranges from UGX 3,000,000 to UGX 5,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
