Job Overview

The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of ethical frameworks for AI initiatives across Nestlé Uganda. This role is central to ensuring that AI systems used in product development, marketing, supply chain optimization, and consumer engagement are transparent, fair, and compliant with both international standards and Ugandan regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an AI Ethics Framework aligned with OECD AI Principles and Ugandan data protection laws.
  • Conduct ethical risk assessments for all AI projects, identifying potential bias, privacy, and fairness issues.
  • Collaborate with data science and product teams to integrate ethical guidelines into model design, training, and deployment.
  • Provide guidance on explainability, transparency, and accountability for AI-driven decision‑making systems.
  • Lead internal audits and third‑party reviews to ensure compliance with ethical standards.
  • Educate stakeholders on AI ethics through workshops, seminars, and documentation.
  • Monitor emerging regulations and best practices, updating policies as needed.
  • Report ethical findings and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of AI technologies, machine learning pipelines, and data governance.
  • Strong knowledge of ethical frameworks, bias mitigation techniques, and responsible AI standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on risk assessment.
  • Effective communication skills to translate complex ethical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, especially GDPR, Uganda Data Protection Act, and sector‑specific guidelines.
  • Proficiency in stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Ability to draft clear policies, guidelines, and training materials.

Education

A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Ethics, Law, Philosophy, or a related field is required. Relevant certifications in AI ethics, data privacy, or compliance (e.g., Certified Ethical Emerging Technologist) are advantageous.

Experience

Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI ethics, data governance, compliance, or a related discipline. Prior experience in a multinational corporation or a fast‑growing technology environment is preferred.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 4,000,000 to SSP 6,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and comprehensive benefits.
